Ontario VIN Check (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect and how we handle it, consistent with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Information we collect
- VIN searches. When you check a VIN, that VIN is sent to our servers to retrieve public vehicle data. We may retain a one-way hash of searched VINs to measure usage and cache results. We do not link searches to your identity.
- Contact messages. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive the email address and message you provide, and use them only to respond.
- Analytics. We use privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible) that do not use cookies and do not collect personal information or track you across sites.
What we do not do
- We do not require an account to use the free tools.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to partners are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, the partner may pay us a commission. Clicking is your choice, and those partners have their own privacy policies that govern any information you share with them.
Data retention & security
We keep information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, and protect it with reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. Cached public vehicle data is retained to improve speed and reduce load on source APIs.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. Email contact@ontariovincheck.caand we’ll respond within a reasonable timeframe.
